Xibo Basics

PLEASE NOTE: This guide assumes you have a working Xibo setup with at least one display connected. If you would like this setting up, please log a support ticket.

Step 1 - Create a layout

The basic building blocks of your digital signage system, layouts are a canvas containing information that you wish to show - Similar to a Microsoft Office PowerPoint slide.

Layouts can include a range of media, which are housed in regions, from text & images to tickers (scrolling text), embedded flash and videos. Additionally, each region can have multiple items with their own timings, so that parts of the layout change independent of one another.

  • Under the layouts section, hit the ADD LAYOUT button in the top-right. file
  • Name your layout and add any tags if required (This is for organisational purposes only) file Hit Save and you will be presented with the layout designer - Now we can begin designing our layout.
  • Customise the background by clicking on the Background button. file Here you can change the colour or use a background image.
  • Add regions which will be populated with different content types by clicking the Region button. file Select a content type and you will be presented with different options. For example, this is the Text content type: file

Don’t forget to hit Save Region Positions after moving a region!

Here is an example layout once multiple different content types have been added (Text, image and ticker). file

Step 2 - Create a campaign

This part is optional as you can schedule layouts directly, but I would always recommend using campaigns as it allows you to add multiple layouts in a rotation.

  • Go to the Campaigns section and click Add campaign. file
  • Click the drop-down arrow on the right of the newly created campaign and select Layouts. file
  • In this screen, we can add layouts to the campaign and change their order as required. Available layouts appear in the bottom and you hit the + to add them to the campaign. Drag them in the top section to rearrange them. file

Step 3 - Schedule the campaign/layout

  • While still on the Campaigns stream, you can go back to the drop-down menu of a campaign and choose Schedule Now. file
  • Schedule the campaign as appropriate, selecting displays/display groups that you wish to display it on. file

Xibo tips

  • When scheduling campaigns/layouts, you can give them a priority to override other scheduled programs. This is useful for having a single campaign always rolling in the background then applying specific notices during key times, eg. break times, lunch times.
